Quick start — 5 essential steps
Estimated time: 10–25 minutes. You'll need your Ledger device, a computer (or mobile), and a safe place for your recovery sheet.
1. Unbox & verify
Check tamper-evident seals and package integrity. If packaging looks altered, stop and contact official Ledger support.
2. Install Ledger Live
Download Ledger Live from ledger.com/start and install it. Use the official site — avoid third-party downloads.
3. Initialize your device
Choose to set up as a new device. Record your recovery phrase on the supplied card — never photograph or store it digitally.
4. Install apps & add accounts
From Ledger Live, install the apps for the cryptocurrencies you use and add accounts to manage them securely.
5. Confirm transactions
Always verify transaction details on the device screen and approve actions using physical buttons—this keeps your private keys safe.
Security best practices
- Never share your recovery phrase. Ledger Support will never request it.
- Write your recovery phrase on the provided recovery sheet and keep multiple offline copies in secure, separate locations.
- Use a strong PIN and enable additional device protections where available.
- Keep firmware and Ledger Live up to date; verify update prompts on the device screen before installing.
Troubleshooting
If Ledger Live does not detect your device, try:
- Switching USB cables or ports — some cables are power-only.
- Restarting Ledger Live or your computer, or trying a supported mobile connection.
- Checking operating system USB permissions and browser settings (if using a web connection).
- Consulting the Ledger Help Center for device diagnostics and step-by-step support.
